Sustainable Agriculture Tour

The Old Field owners Christian and Rosamund Baiz have thoughtfully developed their wines and vineyard to be a model of sustainable agriculture. On this 2 hour tour, learn about the sustainable practices used at Old Field from hand harvesting, flail chopping, cover crops and wildflower patches to biodynamic fertizilers and a gentle gravity approach to transfer, rack and bottle wines.

Tours are given on Saturdays, June - September at 12:30 pm. It is $20 per person and includes a tasting of 5 wines along with a box lunch. Reservations are recommended.

The “Old Field” on the east end of Southold appears in town records as early as 1660. Prior to European settlement in 1640, the field was farmed by the Native Americans. The first vineyard was planted in 1974 by Christian Baiz. He is the 4th generation of his family to farm the land. In addition to the Sustainable Agriculture Tour you can experience the history of the farm with Christian, himself; on Sundays, June - September at 1:30 pm.
