Oysterponds Community Winter Sing

If you’re thirsting for that good old Christmas spirit (and maybe for some warm cider), we know where you should go. To Orient Point Village on the tip of Long Island’s North Fork for Oysterponds’ Community Winter Sing.

This is about as non-commercial as Christmas gets – a group of village residents (the Greenport High School A capella Choir will be on hand to make sure you sound respectable) singing classic favorites in historic Poquatuck Hall, which was built back in 1874. It starts at 4 pm, and the cider and cookies (and non-kitschy charm) are free.

If you’re looking for something more to do while in Orient, it should be noted that The Community Sing is just one of the weekend events sponsored by the Oysterponds Historical Society. On Saturday from noon to 4 PM, there’s the Holiday House Tour -- 6 beautiful homes in Orient and 2 in East Marion – both old and new – open their doors, dressed in their holiday finery ($30 for non-members.) If you’re interested in exactly what the Society does, the historic buildings they maintain will also be open – The Webb House, Orient Country Store, The Old Schoolhouse (which contains The Beach Plum Holiday Shop), and more. For tickets for the house tour, visit the website, or stop by the Orient Congregational Church (23045 Main Road in Orient) at 11:30 am on Saturday.
