Hops & Props Craft Beer Festival
Craft beers are really taking off in America these days. So where better to celebrate them than at a craft beer festival held at a museum where all the exhibits once took off themselves – The Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City.
Saturday, February 10th, from 7-10 pm, over 100 amazing craft beers from around Long Island and around the world set up shop below and among the vintage aircraft. Participants (you have to be 21 and over, so leave the younger plane enthusiasts back at the hangar) get a 2 oz. free souvenir tasting glass and three hours to make the rounds. Lest you think drinking is the only entertainment, there’s live music and food sampling.
Of course, it’s not just beer that gives this event a little something extra. The 8 chronologically ordered galleries at the Cradle of Aviation cover over 150,000 square feet (and the entire history of flying), featuring 75 air and spacecraft from a hot air balloon to an actual Lunar Module – and act as a spectacular backdrop to the festivities. (Come in on a day where beer isn’t on the menu, and there are over 30 hands-on exhibits, a half dozen cockpits to climb into and many short films throughout the exhibits.)
It’s probably best to reserve tickets for Hops & Props online in advance, as it’s not only $10 cheaper, but there’s no guarantee walk-up tickets will be available. General evening admission (7-10 PM) is $65 online ($20 for designated drivers); you can add an extra $20 for a VIP pass that gets you an additional hour of drinking (from 6-7.) Remember to bring your ID, as they’re required for admission. www.hopsandprops.com.
