Opening Reception for 17th Annual Fire Island Lighthouse Art Show

Local artists display their nautical artwork at the 17th Annual Benefit Art Show through July 16th at the Keepers Quarters at the Fire Island Lighthouse, with the opening reception held from 6 to 8 pm on June 21.

This lighthouse has a wonderful back story as a “comeback kid.” Decommissioned from service in 1974, it was restored and preserved by the efforts of the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Just two years later, the lighthouse was re-lit and now serves as a private guide to navigation.

The Annual Benefit Art Show is a yearly fundraising tradition to help preserve the lighthouse and keep it active. Artists display nautically themed artwork, all of which is for sale, and donate a portion of proceeds towards lighthouse preservation. The Reception will feature musicians to keep the evening lively. Admission is free. Just take a shuttle bus from Robert Moses State Park Field #5 directly to the event. For more info about the event or the lighthouse itself, see the website at
