Tango in the Courtyard

Are you someone who’d like to take a dance class, but has never found time? Vanderbilt Museum has the perfect answer – a half-hour tango lesson followed by 2 hours of dancing, which may or may not allow you to practice the steps you just learned.

The Vanderbilt Museum's popular event Tango in the Courtyard returns August 25. Professional instructors will give tango lessons from 7 to 7:30 pm. You will have ample opportunity to dance the tango as well as some Latin, ballroom and swing while enjoying the ambience of the Gold Coast Era. You are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Spanish-Revival style mansion of William Vanderbilt (1878-1944), listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was inspired by the architecture Mr. Vanderbilt loved in Spain and South America. The beautiful, restored cobblestone courtyard is the perfect backdrop for tango and Latin music.

Gates open at 6:00 pm. Featured dance lessons from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, followed by dancing until 10 pm. Tickets: $25 online, $30 at the door. In the event of rain or very cool weather, the event will move to the large celebration tent on the West Lawn.
