This new exhibit explores the impact of women who pushed social borders to affect change in a male-defined world as reflected in the arts spanning the age of 19th century whaling wives to contemporary female artists.
The museum itself explores the whaling history of Cold Spring Harbor and the Long Island area, and hosts lots of special events focusing on the sea and nature. The current permanent exhibit, “If I Were a Whaler” features an immersive exhibit geared towards families with children that allow them to hoist the sail, swab the deck, pack for a journey, chart their global voyage, and climb into a whaler's bunkbed.
