North Fork TV Festival
Some of the best work is being done for the small screen these days, with newly-minted discoveries appearing each season on networks like HBO, Showtime, and Hulu. And if you’re one of the millions who avidly watches this genre (called “independent scripted television” by the way), the North Fork TV Festival is the place for you.
The 2018 edition runs from Thursday to Saturday, September 6-8, starting with a preview night cocktail party on Thursday, then two full days of programming starting at 11 am on Friday and Saturday. Most events take place at the historic Greenport Theater. There’s a mix of world premieres and NY premieres of independent pilots followed by Q&As with the creators; panel discussions with producers who are now or have been heavy-hitters on shows, and parties (most at restaurants and wineries in or close to Greenport; the big kick-off takes place at Kon Tiki at the Gallery Hotel on Main Street starring comedians: Michelle Slonim, Ben Rosenfeld, and Sandip Sen). The North Fork TV Festival’s Judge Committee led by Director Christina Wayne and Artistic Director Jerry Foley, selects independent pilots that are compelling, innovative and groundbreaking. Artistic Director of the Festival, Jerry Foley, is the former director and producer of The Late Show with David Letterman, so while Greenport isn’t the biggest place, the quality of the show isn’t small-time.
Admission for the Festival is either by event (usually $15 a ticket) or by VIP Festival Wide Pass ($250, which includes: admission to all screenings and parties, admission to other festival events while seats available, and complementary food and beverage at all after parties).
