Long Island Summer Festival
There are lots of festivals in the summer on Long Island, but the Long Island Summer Festival has something that takes it miles above the competition – or, in truth, at least a few hundred feet. Because while it’s replete with all the classic staples of summer carnival fun -- a galaxy of food and shopping vendors, carnival games, live music, rides and more – the Long Island Summer Festival also has something special: hot air balloons.
These are the only hot air balloons on Long Island, and they’re ready to take you up and show you around. The balloons float way above the level of the Ferris wheel, giving you a spectacular view of the surroundings and the festival itself far below you. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience – a thrill for the kids or a perfect place to make a romantic memory. And if you’re scared of heights, not to worry: balloons are surprisingly smooth riding, and these are tethered.
The Long Island Summer Festival takes place on Friday, July 12th from 5:00-11:00 pm and Saturday, July 13th from 2:00-11:00 pm. Admission is $5 at the gate and free for anyone under the age of 12. Hot air balloon rides are $35 each, and are popular enough that we recommend you reserve in advance online. Note that all hot air balloon rides are weather dependent, but tickets will be refunded if your balloon does not fly.
