Jones Beach Holiday Light Show
If you think Jones Beach is a summer thing, think again. This year, from November 22 through January 4, it transforms into a holiday light show, with 2.5 miles of displays you can drive through. With your car, not Santa’s sleigh, of course.
There are actually a couple of activities here. You start by driving your car through dozens of animated and synchronized light displays, which seem to get bigger and better every year (scenes are as long as several hundred feet and can be 30 feet high.) Halfway through, you can get out of the car, and take a walk around the heated indoor Holiday Village, where you can decorate cookies or make smores, watch classic holiday movies, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, and of course, take pictures with Santa. On specific days – November 22 among them – gorgeous Samoyed dogs pay a visit.
Visitors can enjoy the light show display daily from 5 pm until 10 at night Monday-Thursday and until 11 pm Friday through Sunday. Tickets are by the car: $25 for any day of the week when purchased online in advance; at the gate it’s $25 Monday-Thursday; $30 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. (To make it extra special, some people opt to rent a limo – entry there is $50 online, limo rental aside, of course.) The Jones Beach Holiday Light Show is popular – popular enough that they offer a “Dash Pass” that lets you skip the line – so coming early in the season or on weekdays may be a good idea.
